It might seem unusual to see a Porsche 911 in the desert, but that's exactly what happened in the 1980s. At that time, the brand was already well-established in special races, especially the 24 Hours of Le Mans. However, the Dakar presented a new challenge.<\/p>

In 1984, Porsche decided to enter the Dakar with a modified 911. Significant changes were made to the chassis, suspension, transmission, and traction system to improve endurance and performance on difficult terrain. They evolved the 911 into a 959, in which they changed the design, bodywork and incorporated technology.<\/p>

From this came the Porsche Rothmans, named after a British cigarette brand. This name refers to a collaboration between Porsche and the Rothmans cigarette brand to sponsor racing teams. The partnership between Porsche and Rothmans resulted in the distinctive decoration of the car, with the colors and logos of the cigarette brand prominently displayed in the vehicle's design.<\/p>

In 1986, the time came for this great Porsche. The team composed of Ren\u00e9 Metge and Dominique Lemoyne achieved victory. This not only demonstrated the car's ability to compete in extreme conditions but also reinforced Porsche's reputation as a prestigious and high-performance brand.<\/p>

Each Porsche 959 unit was meticulously hand-built, contributing to its exclusivity and status as one of the most coveted automobiles of its time.<\/p>
